The holiday crafting I wanted to blog about this year is a terrific idea. Maybe I can commit fully to it later. Right now I need to focus on me. I feel lost in a sea of possibilities; which can be a scary place if you don't think any of the possibilities suit you.<br />
I've been trying to define myself with all these label. Thinking I would be fulfilled if I had a successful craft business- with a popular online shop and good showing at craft shows. If I wrote more blogs and posted tutorials on other sites maybe I would become popular in the crafting community. It's stressful, and it's not making me happy. It's not who I was meant to be.<br />
Who was I meant to be? I'm not sure yet but it's time for me to work on it.Snoodle Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16669367341045936975noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6436683889764702380.post-15820815942460277762011-01-01T00:01:00.000-08:002011-01-01T09:30:25.788-08:00National Hobby Month!<h2 class="def-header" style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: small;">Definition of hobby<i></i><span class="ssens"><b> :</b> a pursuit outside one's regular occupation engaged in especially for relaxation.</span></span></h2><h2 class="def-header" style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span class="ssens">I have many hobbies. Mostly I enjoy crafts such as crocheting and sewing. I also dabble in paper/ mixed media collages, gardening, and needle felting. I enjoy my time in the kitchen as a baker but since I was professionally trained in this (and really do hope to enter the work force once again) I don't really count it as a hobby. I am slowly teaching myself to play the diatonic accordion and I am bound and determined to teach myself to knit this year. </span></span></h2><h2 class="def-header" style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span class="ssens">Anyway I thought I would create some tools to help me with my hobbies this month! I've been wanting to make myself a new pin cushion as well as a needle book for awhile now.</span></span></h2><h2 class="def-header" style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span class="ssens">Isn't this the cutest <a href="http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/alligator-sewing-kit-660573/">needle book</a>? I wanted to start writing more which is why I started this blog last year! However I didn't have the motivation to keep up with it. I didn't feel like I had anything interesting to say. So I have a great plan for 2011 to keep this blog active!</span><br /><span style="font-family: georgia;">You know how it seems like everyday is "national something day"? Well each week I plan to make at least one new craft going along with on the current national days. 2011 is the </span><a style="font-family: georgia;" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hare_%28zodiac%29">year of the hare</a><span style="font-family: georgia;"> in the Chinese zodiac.</span><a style="font-family: georgia;" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlU8xbOycpk5Kvyuhw0TUSvz65gW4DpGuiPqS6mZ-wk5ibNZ7V4QCJywAL04a6_qWOzLf5C-TdCRVxNpedOZuzi-J7wxw313l7wATqJ_HwdYdD6LRI5vo9qqlh3SKU4xYyfY4JL3D2Lao/s1600/bunniesb.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 269px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlU8xbOycpk5Kvyuhw0TUSvz65gW4DpGuiPqS6mZ-wk5ibNZ7V4QCJywAL04a6_qWOzLf5C-TdCRVxNpedOZuzi-J7wxw313l7wATqJ_HwdYdD6LRI5vo9qqlh3SKU4xYyfY4JL3D2Lao/s320/bunniesb.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5555940858435574946" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><span style="font-family: georgia;">The united nations has also declared </span><a style="font-family: georgia;" href="http://www.un.org/en/events/iyof2011/">2011 international year of forests</a><span style="font-family: georgia;">! I am so excited that I decided to do this year for just those two things! I already have a cross stitch picked out for year of the hare, and it's a big one so it might take be all year to get it done! And as far as international year of forests, you can expect lots of forest themed crafts from me seeing as I LOVE all things woodland. Gnomes, deer, squirrels, owl, HEDGEHOGS, trees and birds :) Some of my most favorite things of all time!</span><br /><br /><a style="font-family: georgia;" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVrRzv8O77DXFrCI7uzCc-l5VF_ctozhbe5g2iH6KAfTAp9covnBLcUsQbQ-hvksCd_-XwatJtWdr81l7y3rZ0ti8o6gy-7MI8jiXqgfC1ysSnDNcmAvYQouhO7Kji6SvjMPgNGGupkS8/s1600/goldfinchnest-graphicsfairy009.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 302px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVrRzv8O77DXFrCI7uzCc-l5VF_ctozhbe5g2iH6KAfTAp9covnBLcUsQbQ-hvksCd_-XwatJtWdr81l7y3rZ0ti8o6gy-7MI8jiXqgfC1ysSnDNcmAvYQouhO7Kji6SvjMPgNGGupkS8/s320/goldfinchnest-graphicsfairy009.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5555945218794940418" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-family: georgia;">January is the national month of several different things. </span><ul style="font-family: georgia;"><li> National Bath Safety Month </li><li> National Blood Donor Month </li><li> National Braille Literacy Month </li><li> National Hobby Month </li><li> Hot Tea Month </li><li> National Oatmeal Month </li><li> National Soup Month <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhStpIfxWKx5h6bwHEiKMCy_7eisx10zuNQcJQj6Xq8eMl2ZGwPoJhwJWCH7MgT7SJdjkzkVLPZXhNTNnZiB1_0LoRxkawjja6s_ZsEQWlcUj5h0Y5HDZ64xdDISn62s0q3nsDKQLQXBQQ/s1600/teapota.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 260px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhStpIfxWKx5h6bwHEiKMCy_7eisx10zuNQcJQj6Xq8eMl2ZGwPoJhwJWCH7MgT7SJdjkzkVLPZXhNTNnZiB1_0LoRxkawjja6s_ZsEQWlcUj5h0Y5HDZ64xdDISn62s0q3nsDKQLQXBQQ/s320/teapota.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5555946130703516626" border="0" /></a></li></ul><span style="font-family: georgia;">I can already think of several neat crafts to share with you guys! Today I found such a good deal I almost fainted! Currently Wal-Mart has put some shoe box size plastic totes on clearance. I got a pack of 6- yes 6- totes for only $1!!!!!!!!!!!! That's only .17 cents a piece :) You can't even find that price at your local dollar store!<br />Now I don't usually encourage people to shop at Wal-Mart but this is such a great deal I can't help but share with everyone!<br />Operation Christmas Child doesn't require a plastic container. You can use a regular cardboard shoebox. I just prefer the plastic ones because I know it will last longer. Also I can never seem to find my saved shoe boxes by the time the holidays roll around....Snoodle Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16669367341045936975noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6436683889764702380.post-33050402831434129582010-02-24T06:47:00.000-08:002010-12-28T21:49:13.059-08:00Free Chicken Amigurumi Pattern<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihMM6ol0wyKYqP3ZcqUQncgNzzu9jHezlII-FUaY4POVUNwA69jmuHtdGxECUmkeBxWTItc-AgKgvzQU4g2YcehlIV_QmZJnlnW_K8oScqiz5gO_8gtf26yFXETz7ZdArioAsrnhH4y8A/s1600-h/chickenami-3.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5441823047413774178" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihMM6ol0wyKYqP3ZcqUQncgNzzu9jHezlII-FUaY4POVUNwA69jmuHtdGxECUmkeBxWTItc-AgKgvzQU4g2YcehlIV_QmZJnlnW_K8oScqiz5gO_8gtf26yFXETz7ZdArioAsrnhH4y8A/s320/chickenami-3.JPG" style="cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /></a><br />

There are a lot of windows in the front but I was lucky that a delivery truck was parked outside. I think it blocked anyone from watching what I was doing! I stuck the corner of the plastic bag into the drop off box. It felt a little funny leaving a bag with toys inside of it just hanging outside. I snapped a few pictures before I ran away!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZGbp7gNWXkYd916djG60P6IJkkYwMSYJ5axpjYblEqNkJmmkjThbWKBaWK778W7fM4Dke4_8TYKLQu8vfOuLVenDMVtabK-aP4kPFQqMPULH0gM5VqIP553hxen3NDXq_VfFNcL_EKaQ/s1600-h/toudrop1-1.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZGbp7gNWXkYd916djG60P6IJkkYwMSYJ5axpjYblEqNkJmmkjThbWKBaWK778W7fM4Dke4_8TYKLQu8vfOuLVenDMVtabK-aP4kPFQqMPULH0gM5VqIP553hxen3NDXq_VfFNcL_EKaQ/s320/toudrop1-1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429663518639677410" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhFJiEsGCmq4C5l2ZIOkQMlIOIQZvD2eKO6p_A6RGEyB5Z_7699kd2KXkmDqpNbjobID0VZNyGHDNadzLEyg-9qLRg1P1tJ7oH-2FpWtuxEO7GNyxaN-7JCVhuoJD4Rh0N2Jah08GFW1I/s1600-h/toydrop1-2.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhFJiEsGCmq4C5l2ZIOkQMlIOIQZvD2eKO6p_A6RGEyB5Z_7699kd2KXkmDqpNbjobID0VZNyGHDNadzLEyg-9qLRg1P1tJ7oH-2FpWtuxEO7GNyxaN-7JCVhuoJD4Rh0N2Jah08GFW1I/s320/toydrop1-2.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429664651597645794" border="0" /></a><br />The second drop was much easier! I went to Wacky World playground on McGuire Air Force Base. It was a Friday afternoon so all the neighborhood kids were still at school. I just drove up and hung my second drop from part of the playground. We've been having unusually warm weather this winter so I am sure she will be found soon!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh3oCsPNxNbHwcNl5bT3xjChjj8QWr5ejsYBFs4ywe9GU2Mf0CAiOconELIf0fyt4zdoIKb-UlWsL2HD0c7e0-k4LxXSRiQBq8SU2umRRcZYUJrBY8IMLE9Utv8zgJC19ffWfoh1N62Tc/s1600-h/toydrop2-2.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh3oCsPNxNbHwcNl5bT3xjChjj8QWr5ejsYBFs4ywe9GU2Mf0CAiOconELIf0fyt4zdoIKb-UlWsL2HD0c7e0-k4LxXSRiQBq8SU2umRRcZYUJrBY8IMLE9Utv8zgJC19ffWfoh1N62Tc/s320/toydrop2-2.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429667610506338402" border="0" /></a>I have another two drops ready to go. Hopefully tomorrow I will go for a walk and do some drops around downtown Mount Holly!<br /><br />This is really a lot of fun and so easy to do. If you have older children who can help make toys I think it would be a good teaching tool about sharing and selflessness. I encourage everyone to give it a try :)Snoodle Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16669367341045936975noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6436683889764702380.post-36151899469960740332010-01-16T08:01:00.000-08:002010-02-27T18:02:56.099-08:00Operation Christmas ChildYes, I am already planning for NEXT Christmas! If you haven't heard of Operation Christmas Child I recommend you go to their <a href="http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/OCC/index/">website</a> and check it out. The program asks volunteers to fill shoe boxes with items for children in need. The shoe boxes are sent around the world, the two I did last year went to the Ukraine!<br />Anyway it can be a little expensive to fill a shoe box if you aren't planning ahead. Even if you buy everything from the dollar store it will cost at least $10 a box plus the donation they ask to cover the cost of shipping. This year I promised myself I would fill AT LEAST 10 boxes. To do this and not break the bank I have already started looking for deals.<br />I recommend shopping in the clearance aisle at regular department stores rather than going to cheap places like The Dollar Tree. This way you are only spending a fraction of the price for a quality item that you know will last longer. Also I like to go to discount stores that buy department stores overstock. Again quality items that will last longer but cost less.<br />I was on vacation last week and indulged myself in a little bargain hunting at a local discount store. I spent about $20 and I bought:<br /><br />10 coloring books<br />6 picture books<br />6 sticker books<br />10 toothbrushes<br />10 tubes of toothpaste<br />4 small puzzles<br />8 action figures<br />6 tins of hard candy<br />2 blankets<br /><br />This isn't enough to fill my 10 boxes so I will continue to look for deals in the months to come. I am especially looking forward to later in the year when I can find seasonal themed clothes on clearance. (think spring/easter t shirts on clearance this summer and flip flop on sale this fall!)Snoodle Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16669367341045936975noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6436683889764702380.post-8059929309789315602010-01-04T17:15:00.001-08:002010-01-04T17:39:14.641-08:00Toy SocietyI just heard of this great thing called Toy Society. I can't wait to participate!<br />It is a street art project where people make handmade toys and leave them somewhere to be found. The finder gets to keep the toy forever and ever to enjoy and love. All the Toy Society asks is that the finder send and email to let the member know that one of toy drops had been found. The Toy Society provides templates for tags and a little informative letter to be included with the toy.<br /><br />I am so excited to join because I have a few dozen toys that I discontinued in my etsy shop and I didn't know what to do with them except donate to a local thrift store. Toy Society sounds like a lot more fun!<br /><br />You can follow Toy Society on their blog, <a href="http://www.thetoysociety.blogspot.com/">click here!</a><br /><br />I'll keep everyone updated on my participation with this wonderful project!Snoodle Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16669367341045936975noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6436683889764702380.post-72715879065828466282009-12-29T17:04:00.000-08:002009-12-29T17:54:05.730-08:00Crafting until I have calluses! My craft to-do list keeps growing and I am in the antsy position where the crafts I would rather be doing are at the bottom of the list.<br /><br /> At the top of the list is finishing Christmas gift. Yes folks, today is Dec 29th and I am still making gifts. I guess it is a good thing that I won't be celebrating Christmas with my folks or in laws until the second week of January.<br /><br /> On the to do list are crocheted socks for my mom, a winter ear flap hat for my dad, and 2 crayon roll-ups for my niece and nephew. I'm really sick of making these items and I just want to get them over with!<br /><br /> So far I have made 7 ear flap hats for other members of my family. It's a very easy and fast pattern. the end results are super cool. But seriously after 5 they lost their charm. If you want to make to learn how to make your own ear flap hat <a href="http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/70016A.html">click here!</a><br /><br /> The socks take forever. I found a "pattern" on a crochet website. More of an idea of a pattern, because it is no very clear on just when to finish off. My first sock kinda looked like they had bunny ears where the toes should be. If you want to take a look at this "pattern"<a href="http://www.crochetme.com/issue_1/socks_in_shoes.html"> click here!</a><br /><br /> Crayon roll- ups are great! Now my kids don't have to fight over the red crayon because they each have their own! Making two more for my niece and nephew. I used the tutorial on <a href="http://uklassinus.blogspot.com/2008/09/lazy-crayon-roll-tutorial.html">this blog</a>.<br /><br /> So after these things are made (and wrapped) I'll be able to get to what I really want to do. I have several new patterns cooking in my brain. A plush monkey, crochet headbands, and mini pin cushions, just to name a view.Snoodle Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16669367341045936975noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6436683889764702380.post-42232541467378142062009-12-28T08:51:00.000-08:002009-12-28T09:10:08.984-08:00Pattern Review<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs_8b2rZfDuA2oOvAhiCTGA0QPMWB_u3s5GSxpbL5aP_GBplr6zYwOG-kcYo8BR0u0Ts535E7_1xa6LrD9SWQ34YjrhAFTLHtxAXDpdPy0IB895PWST4pwsynlLqpv8jDvy_EWa8aEDkc/s1600-h/scarf.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs_8b2rZfDuA2oOvAhiCTGA0QPMWB_u3s5GSxpbL5aP_GBplr6zYwOG-kcYo8BR0u0Ts535E7_1xa6LrD9SWQ34YjrhAFTLHtxAXDpdPy0IB895PWST4pwsynlLqpv8jDvy_EWa8aEDkc/s320/scarf.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5420334521298137250" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Hello All!<br /><br />Today I will be reviewing a free pattern from Lion Brand Yarn. I am a HUGE fan of lion brand. They have many many free patterns and their yarn is great to work with. I especially like Vanna Choice.<br /><br />The pattern I am reviewing today is called Granny Square Scarf (pretty original right?). It calls for 14 different colors of vanna's choice yarn. If you buy a new ball of yarn like I did, you will have enough yarn to make AT LEAST 3 scarves, maybe even four. If you don't want to buy all new yarn it would be a great pattern to use up scraps or left over yarn from other projects.<br /><br />The scarf is made from 3 different motifs of granny squares. Each motif is very easy to crochet; most out of double crochet stitches.<br /><br />I did find that the color combination to be a bit dull. There are a few colors that are used much more than others.<br /><br />The finished project makes a very long scarf. It is a bit bulky and I think best used for outside wear.<br /><br />I thought the picture they posted of the finished product was a little misleading because it doesn't look bulky. Over all it is a nice easy pattern that doesn't take a lot of time.<br /><br />In my picture there are two scarves. The one of the left is the first one I made, following the color combination in the pattern. The scarf on the left is the second one I made using my own color combination.<br /><br />To make your own Granny Square Scarf <a href="http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/80413AD.html">click here! </a>Snoodle Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16669367341045936975noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6436683889764702380.post-69909501385974390642009-12-27T09:49:00.000-08:002009-12-27T09:54:41.348-08:00End of The Year SaleI am having an end of the year sale in my etsy shop.
